“The sores forming with unholy speed on Harley’s arms and legs confirmed the infection was spreading. Its poison surged through her veins with such momentum that she could feel its sting in the current of her pulse. Unrelenting pain seared every cell, and she struggled to maintain focus, despite the fever raging in her blood.” – Viral Storm
Viral Storm continues the story of Casey Williams and her friends attempting to flee the country and expose the evil work of BioGenetics, creators of the virus that spawned the zombie apocalypse. Euthanizing her best friend, who’d been infected with the virus, was the most soul-crushing thing Casey could have imagined, but that was nothing compared to what happens next… Like the first book in the series, Viral Dawn, Viral Storm has gore, violence, and dark themes common in zombie apocalyptic fiction, but the book focuses more on the characters’ lives than other elements. The story centers on strong, young adult female characters as do similar books in female-centered dystopian fiction like The Hunger Games, Twilight, Divergent, and The Year of the Flood. Join Casey as her struggle for survival continues in Viral Storm.

Awesome!!

I call my self a zombie snob, I’ve read so many zombie stories it takes a lot to impress me but color me impressed. This series just keeps getting better and better. The storyline sucks you in and the characters are so real I found myself rooting for them. Casey has had to give mercy to her best friend Harley before she turns. Now she along with her remaining friends are looking to expose Biogenetics, creators of the virus. The blood and gore flow like water and death surrounds them as they try to do what’s right and show the world the evil that is Biogenetics. I couldn’t put this down and now I have to impatiently wait for book 3.

All Carson Reno Mystery Series Books are standalone novels. It is not necessary to read them in any particular order.
It’s spring 1962 and a Sergeant with the Memphis Police Department is found dead only hours before his scheduled testimony before a grand jury.

A woman claiming to have information related to his planned testimony comes forward and seeks protection.

An exciting Carson Story!

Yes, I love reading Darnell’s work. I also love, and I mean love, Carson Reno, and was very excited to read this one. First, what I like about any of Darnell’s Carson Reno’s books is the way that writes it so anyone can pick up any volume of his multitude of books and read it. But, once you read it, you end up wanting more. Lack of Candor was no different. Reno is on a new and interesting case, and nothing is as it seems. I like how Carson tells his story and what happens, especially his thoughts about himself and the others around him. It makes for great storytelling. The story was thrilling, and though plot-driven, the characters, were what makes for the remarkable and exciting story. I like that he introduces a cast of characters, so much that I’ve taken that idea from him with my own work. An edge-of-your-seat, savor-every-word, page-turner!

Suspenseful and endearing

I really enjoyed the second book in this series. You could read it as a standalone as well. When Nina and her daughter Emily see her father killed they run for their lives. Jacob a good friend who is a cop goes after them. On the way up Vail mountain, the bad guys catch up to Nina and Emily. Rob lives on the mountain and helps with search and rescue missions. You need to read this book. I think the book was suspenseful and endearing. I enjoyed reading it very much.

Out of this world

I bounce around genres to stimulate my imagination. I wasn’t disappointed when I stumbled onto Carol Ann Kauffman’s “The Captain and the Ambassador.” While the stage is out of this world, the story is about human interaction, disappointment, renewal, and romance. Like most humans, Ambassador Redman and Captain Jacobs are experts in their fields but failures when it comes to relationships. Their collaboration and inevitable romantic connection are fraught with disappointment, challenge, and intrigue. Kauffman takes us on an intergalactic journey with lots of twists and turns. Will they be able to escape the drama of their past and what kind of mischief and misfortune awaits them in the darkness of outer space? This tale is worth the investment of your time.

She and her Daddy sat and planned for places to visit, things to try and people to see. With the death of her father when she was ten, she put the list away. Her mother’s depression and her own feelings of abandonment left her without a purpose. Where would be the enjoyment without her whole family to share it with?
By the time she was ready for high school, Lizzy has come to terms with a life full of bumps. Mom has had one boyfriend after another searching for the happiness she had before. Moving to new neighborhoods with each one. Kids are mean at school and friends don’t come easy when you didn’t get to attend with them from kindergarten. Being a semi-loner with only a few girls, she can call friends she learns to be self-sufficient. She makes good grades and tries to make her home life easy on her mom. But that all comes to a stop when the latest boyfriend pays too much attention to her growing body. Mom doesn’t notice, and the only option she sees is to leave. On her own at sixteen is not ideal, but it’s better than not having any choices.
Streetlife is hard, and there isn’t a day that goes by that the thought of going home doesn’t cross her mind. Finding others just like herself makes it bearable. Surviving is easier when you’re not the only one. Then one day, she meets him. That one person that makes you wish for more. Spending time with them makes your day brighter. Makes you wish for everything again. Never thinking it’s all just an illusion. Betrayal of the worst kind. Pain and humiliation become the norm, and it’s all his fault.
Thirty years later, after making her way in life and bringing her girls with her, she has it all. A successful business and friends who respect her. Living quietly does make for town gossip, but that is just talk. She is content with everything she has and what she fought for. Until he comes back. With him come memories better left in the past. Can she survive with her heart and mind intact? Can she tolerate being around the person who betrayed her, to make her girls happy? This is Lizzy’s story. The final installment of the Mercy’s Angels. What happened to take the light away from her eyes? Why does the past have to resurface now?

Forbidden love – Yes Please! A must-read!

Angela Gray captured my attention from the first page. One question kept going through my mind as I read the book – What happened to Jolie? Angela provides enough hints to that question to keep the pages turning.

Love the word choices and how distinct the voices are for both characters. I also find Jolie very easy to relate to and rooting for her to get better and hoping she will follow her dreams.

The friction at the start of the relationship has me sitting at the edge of my seat hoping to read faster to see how they end up. Love the instant attraction for the forbidden love but being in a motorcycle club, there are no rules so why not?

I enjoy the storyline and how it progresses at the right speed. Definitely a book worth reading over and over again.

There was an old woman who lived in a shoe;
She had so many children, she didn’t know what to do.
She fed them all broth without any bread;
Then whipped them all soundly and sent them to bed.
~Mother Goose, The Dorling Kindersley Book of Nursery Rhymes (2000)
She took them from the woods, and she took them from dells, from hamlets and homesteads and across the wide world, she found young orphans, those abandoned and left on their own, and gave them a home.
And all she asked for was a little piece of their soul in payment…
Whoever said nursery rhymes were harmless?

I can’t get enough of Lawrencovna’s books.

I can’t stop reading Lawrencovna’s books. She has a way with her writing style that makes you feel like you’re right there with the characters. You’ll feel sympathy for the children in this book and wish you could be there to help.
Her story will keep you reading until the amazing end.
I highly recommend this and all books by Andi Lawrencovna.

“Uplifting Children’s Book” – I Wish I Was A Brownie – by  Marsha Casper Cook

20 marsha 2

Chippy isn’t happy with who he is and wants to be a brownie. With help from his teacher, Mrs. Chipster, he realizes he can be happy with who he is if he believes in himself. Children will not only relate to what has happened to Chippy they will be pleased as they see sad Chippy become happy being himself. This is a heartwarming storybook for early readers, reading aloud at home, and as a bedtime story. Self Esteem is very important no matter what age. Kids will be learning without feeling this is a message.

This is a great book for grandparents to have on their bookshelf so they can spend time reading together.

If you also get the audiobook children will love hearing the words as they read.

Uplifting Children’s Book

The illustrations on the cover and in the book are adorable. Kids can relate to wanting to be something other than they are, and then the
joy of finding out they are wonderful as they are. It also is helpful to promote talking about bullying and feelings about wanting to “fit in”.
The end of the book is happy and hopeful. I really enjoyed it.

A work of exceptional talent

The love story of Marika and Dickon will ring in my mind long after the Star Shifts are over and the book comes to an end with the haunting final words.

21st-century science can indeed explain the catastrophes that overwhelm the planet Tonath at irregular intervals when space/time shifts. Although the previous novels in this series must better explain the lineages and genealogy of the aliens with two hearts, Marika stands alone as a work of exceptional talent.
