Calder made mistakes he would pay for, though he didn’t think it would be with his life. He quickly learned that everything he believed about dying wasn’t true, after all.
From the author of The Peace of Pi, and Ending in V, comes a haunting new tale that will keep you turning the pages, to the unexpected ending.

Great read from a writer to watch…

I enjoyed this from beginning to end! It began with a powerhouse opening that made me want to know what happened next, and the ‘next’ didn’t disappoint. Great writing, and several twists in this short piece. I guarantee you will find it entertaining, and it will stick in your mind after you finish.

Wow, this isn’t my usual genre, so I wasn’t expecting such a roller-coaster of emotions, I loved this book! Some great twists and suspense along with a lovely romance, I even shed a few tears at one point … and I don’t cry!

Elaine (Lainey) tries to keep herself hidden from her stepdad. Jackson (Jax), the schools’ basketball heartthrob, takes an instant shine to the quiet, reserved nerdy girl who tries to keep herself to herself and hide under her big glasses and baggy clothes. On the night of their first date everything changes for Elaine, can she now keep herself hidden and safe?

Whilst this is a fairly short read, I still connected well with Lainey and Jax. I’ve only dropped my rating a little as the story is told throughout in dual POV, which I personally found annoying as each time it recapped on the same story. However, this doesn’t really distract from the fact this is a really great read, and I’d definitely recommend.

“The Fingerprint Murders” (Carson Reno Mystery Series Book 10) by Gerald W. Darnell – #Mystery, #Thriller, #Suspense, #Hard-Boiled, #Crime

All Carson Reno Mystery Series Books are standalone novels. It is not necessary to read them in any particular order.
Someone is brutally murdering people in Memphis, and for unknown reasons, the killer wants Carson involved.
They’re not just killing people, they’re removing the victim’s fingers and leaving strange clues everywhere. Carson becomes involved when the killer sends him severed thumbs – each wrapped in bloodstained paper containing Bible scripture.
Clues are everywhere, but none of them make any sense and aren’t connected – yet.
Old names surface and the mystery gets stranger and darker as Carson tries to solve the ‘Fingerprint Murders’.

Severed Finger!

The Black and White pictures mixed in with the story is classic! The Jack Daniels, the butcher knife, and the severed finger. Darnell’s style of writing, along with the sparse photos, paints a vivid picture in my mind and keeps me turning the pages. I’ve read one Carson Reno book before this and have to admit I am hooked. I don’t think Gerald Darnell can top this Reno Carson story. If you are going to read a Reno Carson, this is the one!

joy, frustration

This tail drags your soul through a full spectrum of emotions. Anger, joy, frustration, calm and those moments when your fur stands on end. From the dawn of this novel, our young protagonist is caught in a deadly trap and the evil actions of her foe raise up one’s hackles. I enjoyed the complex emotional influences between our young lass, the heroes, and the antagonists. Should she run with the pack or make her way as a lone wolf?
If your heart craves a little animal magnetism and adventure I highly recommend Crescent Vendetta

Karen Vaughan has written up another winner!

Laura Fritz is back along with the characters I have come to love from this author’s other books in the series. This time, Laura meets a couple of authors. Natalie, Silvie, and Terri were close friends and struggling to be authors. When two of the women die mysteriously, Laura gets involved and the adventure to solve a mystery begins. Karen Vaughan writes no-frills stories with amazing and believable characters. Grabbing a book by this author is like sitting down with an old friend and having a chat. Here novels are twisted mysteries with a cozy appeal and not to be missed.
