Delightful story

This was a very delightful story with all the mixed time lines, unique vocabulary, romance ahead of sex, and feelings instead of conjecture.

Troianne is a messed up woman trying to find the answers, the men, and the way to live life. She may be rich, a bit scattered brained, but I found her quite lovable and genuine.

I enjoyed the 1800 and 1900 hundreds and wish I had lived back then.

Take a fun ride by falling into this story.

Jerry’s has lived his life, taking the path of least resistance and never trying to make his life remarkable, accept in his own mind. If it required a real effort, Jerry wasn’t interested at least, not until the day he found the box and met the hollowers.

Written in a Twilight Zone or Alfred Hitchcock style.

A GREAT HUMORESQUE 🙂 🙂 :)The Hollowers by Patricia Moran is a great Humoresque about a man named Jerry who lived in his own fascinating dream world. Jerry is a loser who invented his own perfect world where he is very important and James Bond-like. The author describes Jerry in an ironic and humorous style that made me laugh loudly several times. Jerry is ridiculous trying to hide his balding head by combing his hair over it, and “tossing his coat over his shoulder in what he felt gave him a James Bond look.”Everything in life has its logical end. Following his foolish dreams and idiotic thinking brings Jerry to a mysterious ancient box, the meeting with which becomes so exciting and fatal for him. The mysterious glow coming out of the box fully possesses his mind… and body. What happened to Jerry? What was in the box?I think it’s a great Humoresque. I would highly recommend to read it if you want to relax after a busy working day. It will relieve your stress and make you laugh!Leyla Atke

Sesame, an old woman in frail health, is trapped in the attic with no explanation. A woman and her two small girls live on the first floor, none of whom pay the old woman any mind. Though she tries calling out, banging on walls, and stomping on the floor, her cries for help go ignored.

Sesame spends her days writing letters about the strange happenings, to her sister, Eula, who left home decades ago. It becomes certain to everyone living in the house that there is a ghostly presence, firmly rooted among them; disturbing the peace and creating fears beyond reason. The house surely is haunted. Only the ending reveals by whom.

If I had more stars to give, this book would definitely get them.

I loved this story. I have read many by this author and have to say this is my favorite. When I read the afterword in the book as the author explained where the story came from, I so wished I had more stars to give. I know that place where this story was found and hope Michael Bussa finds many, many more there. In this well-crafted tale readers enter the mind of Sesame, an older woman stuck in the upstairs of a home while she wonders what is happening beneath her. What she thinks and feels is expressed in the letters she is writing to her sister Eula. The author twists this story just right and takes readers on a great ride. The feeling in this book is intense and readers can almost feel reality slip away as they become one with this story. Thanks to Michael Bussa who knows how a short story was made to be written

Rheanon Donatesu taught at a prestigious girls school in London. She prided her self on being able to take a young woman under her wing to teach her about science and mostly how to be a leader of women. Clearly an independent woman. Rheanon had always been wild and impetuous. She could turn stone into dust and best anyone at whist, even play cards with the finest gentleman in England and win. What she couldn’t do is wait any longer for the man she loved to come back to her. She tried her hardest to find out where he was, writing letters and talking to his dear mother who was her aunt by marriage.
Rheanon tried even hard to keep her special abilities a secret. There were only a few who knew about her sorcery. Those were the Five Stars.
Her arch nemesis went missing one night during one of the card games. No one could find out who took Miss Lisbeth Ashley. That is until a Bow Street Runner comes knocking on Rheanon’s door asking too many questions. Then another pulls her right off of the street for questioning. This one vowed he would have her in his bed. He would have a hard time convincing her.
Why on earth would they suspect Rheanon? Only one person knows, and that person is closer to Rheanon than anybody suspected.

Timeless Love

Wow, I have to say that I never saw some of that coming. I love how she kept you wondering what was going to happen until the last pages of this book. The Characters pull at her your heart strings, and you want to go into the book to help them. I love the differences between the times and how she has to explain things to the Duke. So great.

“The Between Times” (Jewell in the Dark, Volume II) by Marta Moran Bishop – #Horror, #Occult, #ContemporaryFiction

Animated GIF-downsized_large.gif
Line Blurb

In the days when the corporations rule the world. The middle class is gone, and the cities are divided into upper and lower towns.

The upper towns are domed to protect the rich from the foul air that permeates the world, from the waste that fills the air, and fumes that blacken the sky from the smokestacks of the factories. The water is heavily rationed in the lower towns and barely drinkable, so fouled by the chemicals that fill the rivers and springs.

While in the upper town the water is purified even in the fountains and swimming pools that grace the world of the high and mighty. The shops, boutiques, restaurants, and museums are crowded in the upper town, music can be heard everywhere, and the flowers grow tall and beautiful.

While the people of the lower towns work six days a week, in sixteen to eighteen-hour shifts. There one day off is Sunday, it is then that the men and young boys must be found in the church, while the women and girls are kept at home, for they are considered to be beasts for breeding and less important than the animals that grace the zoos of the upper towns. Food is scarce in the lower town, and the only market is the company store.

The world has stepped back into the dark ages. Nearly all hope is gone to those not born into wealth and only the prophecy that one day a young woman will come who can control the magic of the between times keeps the poor going. It is said she will be able to pull on the energy of all those who are of like mind, wrap that energy together and send it into the world to remake it.

Marta Moran Bishop takes the reader through a possible future. Unlike Orwell’s, Animal Farm and 1984, or Ray Bradbury’s Fahrenheit 451, The Between Times is not based on the government ‘Big Brother,’ but rather it is written using a recent ruling by the Supreme Court that says corporations are people. In The Between Times, we are shown the possibility of a world where the poor are considered to be a beast of burden, good only for the labor they can produce or the war they can fight, to enable the war profiteers to make more money.

Poor women are used for breeding and considered to be the property of men and the corporation. There is no way for the uneducated and isolated poor, move up the latter, for the middle class is gone.

In this short novel, The United States had taken a social, economic, and cultural step backward, to a time when our world consisted of lords and serfs. The only thing that keeps those who are not in the ruling class of the elite, going is the belief in a prophecy, that one day a girl will be born who will have the ability to unite all kindred spirits past, present, and future, to bring change to the world.

A truly amazingly imaginative book.

Robert Blake Whitehill
The Between Times are NOW!Marta Moran Bishop’s The Between Times is a terrific allegory–until the sucker punch. You think you’re reading a dystopian story set in some future time. Then you suddenly realize Bishop is writing about right now: The Between Times is a period in which we still have a chance save all we hold dear. Fail to marshal our collective powers, and we fail as a society, a culture, as a nation-state, and the beacon to the world that America has always been being snuffed, never to be reignited. Penned with all the visceral indictments of Sinclair’s The Jungle, we admire and pity Ben, fear for Jewell, grieve Roxanne and loathe Mr. Horton and his kind. There is a cliffhanger ending that made me need to know more. Will the uprising in The Between Times save us? This series would make fascinating movies.

As I was reading this book it got better with every page
By Jacquelyn
5 stars!!! I have to say that I really thought that this book was not going to interest me! As I was reading this book it got better with every page! Some where in the story I got lost! One minute I was reading about a woman giving birth in 2013 and then the next she was in the 1800’s! But as I kept reading the book I began to fall in love with Troianne. One person who have you believe that no 21 year old woman in the year 2013 would talk like she is from the past, but I do know some people that do talk like they are from a different time but they are not. They picked up on how their families spoke. I think that it is unique and that the Author was not trying to be like everyone else. NO where in this book did it state that it was a true story, and it should not mock how people in the year 2013 speak. Sorry I got off of subject. Duncan, and Troianne were meant to be together, because the feelings that they both had the first time that they met each other . Let me say this no man would ever ask that another man take care of his kid even in the 1800’s or the 2013’s. Becker in this book is a real man! I loved how Duncan was there to be a father to Diana! This Author in my opinion is extraordinary, and very imaginative. 5 Stars all the way!!!!

Calder made mistakes he would pay for, though he didn’t think it would be with his life. He quickly learned that everything he believed about dying wasn’t true, after all.

From the author of The Peace of Pi, and Ending in V, comes a haunting new tale that will keep you turning the pages, to the unexpected ending.

sHaunting LoveThis is a wonderful little tale that I feel would be even better service and well suited for a novella to full novel. I really love the idea of watching over the person you truly loved the most after your death. Hauntingly beautiful and depending on feeling and circumstance nightmareish even. This truly is a nice little look at characters and situation that deserves greater exploration. I do highly recommend this.

Hauntingly Good

I really enjoyed this story of Sesame writing letters to her sister Eula as she tells her about her failing health and about the strange happenings with the new tenants downstairs. I knew where things were headed with Sesame a while before we got there but the big twist at the ending I could never have seen. I’ve truly enjoyed all of Michael Bussa’s work, and this is no different. Awesome as ever.
