Dead Men Don’t Swing – A Laura and Gerry Mystery by Karen Vaughan
Laura and Gerry are at it again. Death finds them close to home when a tenant is found in the dumpster behind their apartment building. Laura is thrust into the “who killed Denny?” mystery while she does battle with a tenant and dodges a school janitor. The life of a college student is never boring, but she wishes it would be!
Dead Men Don’t Swing is a biting, funny, deliciously bawdy and fast-paced murder mystery in which “death by sexual misadventure and a wayward poisonous snake” (among other things) make for pure entertainment gold.”

In this book, Laura and her husband Gerry are back dealing with another murder investigation since, as Laura explains, she’s a ‘corpse magnet.’ This time a dead body turns up in a dumpster at the apartment complex where Laura and Gerry are managers, having fallen to his death from the balcony above. Not likely an accident—the guy is wearing boxer shorts and sporting a tricked-out stiletto in his forehead. Oh yeah, he’s missing some sensitive body parts—yikes!

Five Stars:
Dead Men Don’t Swing is Karen Vaughan’s bawdy, comedic take on amateur sleuthing. It’s book four in her Laura & Gerry Mystery series. Lots of detective lingo is delivered with wit and sarcasm by the protagonist, Laura. That’s not surprising if you’ve read Vaughan’s previous books in the series and given the fact that the author has done a bit of stand-up comedy.

Things are not as they seem in this suburban Canadian apartment complex. It turns out there’s a whole lot of hanky-panky going on in this mid-rise Peyton Place, some of it pretty kinky stuff, too. There’s no shortage of pervs and perps on any floor, in addition to the ever-annoying, tenant-from-hell, Stella. As I type the name, I hear Marlon Brando screaming it at the top of his lungs in A Streetcar Named Desire. And, speaking of movies, the photographer played by Jimmy Stewart in Hitchcock’s Rear Window, would have been hard-pressed to know where to shoot first with all the action going on in this complex!
Laura, studying to become a CSI, makes the best of the situation and starts racking up the A-pluses as she incorporates aspects of the investigation into her homework assignments. Of course, even an A-student can get into trouble when word gets out about the direction in which her studiousness is leading. Laura is soon stalked, badgered and beleaguered by tenants and non-tenants alike as the ‘serpentine’ [if you read the book you’ll get my choice of words] plot twists put Laura and her husband Gerry to the test.
Will Laura live long enough to get credentialed as a CSI? Will she and Gerry figure out whodunit and why? Will they ever again make that laundry room at the apartment complex a place you might want to wash your clothes? You’ll have to read the book to find the answers to these and other disturbingly funny questions raised by Karen Vaughan in Dead Men Don’t Swing.

KEEPING THE UPPER PAW THE CATS GUIDE TO TRAINING YOUR HUMAN, PATRICIA MORAN AND MARTA MORAN BISHOP

Hi! I’m Ryanne Anthony, and I’m a woman.
You want more? Okay, okay. I really don’t like writing about myself (go figure) but here we go…
I’m a wife and the mother of two children that sometimes make me want to pull my hair out of my head, but I wouldn’t trade them for anything. They are mine, and I made them, carried them and lost what little shape I had doing that. 😉
I am a semi-new author that decided after having several careers, I would listen to what my mind was telling me and write. So I did, and I named my first book ‘Mariah.’ Then I chickened out and put it away. Then I saw a face that made me want to try it again. So I did. I pulled Mariah out, revamped her and was happy with what I did. Then I chickened out again, put her away but this time, I wrote another book and called that ‘Broken: Book One of the M Series.’ I let some people read that, and several said ‘loved it!’ Some said, ‘wow, I need to read that again!’ And yes, some said, ‘confusing as H and I have no idea what to do with this!’ I say, bear with it, it’s worth getting to know Mariah, Marcus, Matthew, Madison, Monica, Major and the rest of the M Series characters.
Now, there are eight in that series. I’m proud of them all; proud of everything I have written.
My goals in writing are to make my reader laugh, gasp, scream, yell, get angry, cry and nod. At the end of every story, I want them to THINK on what I’ve written, identify on a storyline or two. Every book, I try to do that. I want to entertain you, to not regret spending time ‘inside my head.’
I love reviews, even if you just star it, so please give an author a solid and review! Review! Review! Please!

Just loved this book. Was a change of pace for me. Main characters were Shelby, Drew, and Trent. Drew and Trent have been friends for many years. First Drew went back home to Montana to help with his mother and opened up an attorney’s office. Shelby has lived in Ennis all her life, except when she went away to school. Shelby met Drew with him coming into her bakery. During Drew’s visit to Shelby’s bakery, he asked about her apartment above the bakery. Drew had wanted it for his friend Trent, who was coming back to Ennis. Now, Trent was a playboy, and according to Drew, he wouldn’t be in town very long. Trent moved in, and everything changed for the three.
I could go on, but I don’t want to inform other readers anymore of the story, so you have to read it.

Keeping The Upper Paw: A Cat’s Guide To Training Your Human, began with scraps of paper that were found lying around the house. It is a humorous look at life through the eyes of a cat.
All of the cats in this book were once a part of the family, cohabiting together in the household of, Ms. Moran and Ms. Bishop.
Morris, the elder cat, Beau, his second in command, Kitten a cat who liked to get physical, Poofie, a small gray boy, who dreamed of being an only cat, Champ, the shy one, Mikey the playful boy, Sheba, the only girl, and Little Bit, the baby all lived, played, and trained their humans.
Both Ms. Moran and Ms. Bishop, have described their part in this book as merely the typists.

So much fun!
