Second chances are possible but only if the lies and compromises are gone.

Martin had lost his first wife and daughter in a horrible car accident and it took him years to fight the sadness he woke up with every day. When he met Elaine everything changed. He married her and their new life made Martin forget all the pain. Once again life was good.

After feeling such happiness the second time around Martin never expected tragedy to once again be knocking at his door, but it had. If Martin had known the truth about Elaine’s past he would have been able to help her but her fear of the truth became her reality and the fact that they loved each other didn’t seem to be enough. Elaine came up with a solution she thought would be for the best. Martin went along with her plan but it put him in a compromised position and very unhappy, but he loved his wife so much he agreed to live her lie.

The stakes were very high but Martin thought in time he could change her mind but as the years passed the only thing that changed was Elaine. She became withdrawn and uneasy and finally when things got out of hand and Martin couldn’t control anything that happened it was a downward spiral and everything they had worked to achieve began to crumble.

Could Martin save his wife from herself? Would Elaine let that happen?

For love, Martin would do anything and Elaine loved him for that, but would that be enough?

An enjoyable book

Love changes by Marsha Casper Cook draws the reader in from the very first page and keeps them until the last word.

Martin was happily married with a wonderful wife and daughter, when one fateful day devastation came knocking at the family home, the wife and daughter were involved in a car accident that took their lives. As the years passed he fought through the sadness he woke with each day. However, Martin met Elaine and his life began to change for the better. They married and with his new life, Martin finally forgot the pain, making his life great again.

However this second time with the happiness he was surrounded by, a cruel twist of fate once again saw tragedy knocking on his door. Unfortunately, his second wife Elaine kept her past secret, although fearing the truth of her past becoming a reality and although they loved one another it could all be ruined was the mistake, the pair have to face the consequences of now in their present.

The way the characters have been constructed and written makes them easy to empathize with and even hate at times. It’s wonderfully created and very enjoyable, a definite recommend.

AWESOME READ

The Silver and the Green by Mari Collier 5 stars
This is a very interesting fantasy tale about another world, one that has a similar weave to the 17th or 18th centuries of our own world. Relationships develop out of a need to survive. Journeys of escape ensue. Troubles grow between different groups each with their own beliefs about what is the real truth. Lots of excitement, surprises and tense moments. An excellent read.

“A wonderfully written tale of the struggle to overcome childhood abuse and trauma” – When Lightning Strikes The Cottonwood by Lisa L. Borm

From kindergarten, we bonded over bruises and welts.

So began the story of Margo, Darryl, and Justin. Together they faced anything life could throw at them by cussing, pretending, and fighting back. Until an event so horrible, Margo knew she couldn’t even tell the boys. Instead, she just left.

Now she’s moving back into her Grandmother’s house – a divorced woman with two children in tow.

Can the three friends rebuild their special relationship out of the broken pieces of trust? Will Darryl forgive Margo for breaking his heart? Can they move forward with their lives without Margo telling them why she left?

ONE OF THE GREATS

When Lightning Strikes the Cottonwoods by Lisa L Borm, is a wonderfully written tale of the struggle to overcome childhood abuse and trauma through connection and lasting friendships. Friendships that last through loss and separation only to rekindle the bonds later in life.
It is both a love story and a story of the importance of belonging.
Ms. Borm is not only an excellent writer but sees an insight that few go into the heart and soul of people. Both male and female characters are strong with a sense of presence rarely found in many of today’s books, even from the most successful and popular authors. Her writing style allows the reader to delve deeply into the hearts and minds of the characters, walk along with them all the while feeling their pain, confusion, hope, love, and mind.
One feels as if they live in this town, know these people intimately and can relate to them. It can make one long for a simpler life, without the hustle and bustle of the city.
When Lightning Strikes the Cottonwoods, is one of the best of literary adventures. It is reminiscent of books written by John Steinbeck, JD Salinger, William Faulkner, and Virginia Wolff. It is a rare book, and I’d happily place it on my shelf next to these other great novels.
Highly Recommended

“Christina and Paul fought to eliminate the prac-tice of euthanasia and longed for a time when both could run a large animal sanctuary” – The Curse of the McClaren Fields by Gary D. Henry

17 gary 1

Line Blurb

Cristina is a new veterinarian with a passion for protecting animals. She fought against shelters that euthanize animals to save money instead of creating a robust animal adoption center for older animals. However, her mentor and kindly old Vet who owned the clinic where she interned, died sud-denly leaving the business to his son who only cared about making money. He hired a heartless busi-ness partner to modernize the clinic. However, with the modernization came an ominous oven de-signed to cremate newly euthanized animals. She read a newly written decree that their clinic had changed its policy on unwanted animals. An incensed Cristina fought hard against the practice and eventually won the hearts and minds of the small community sending the young business partner and the new owner into bankruptcy. During a vacation designed to get her away from the clinic while the owner and business part-ner installed the controversial oven, she met up with ex-hunter, Paul McClaren, her longtime, on again, off again, boyfriend who wanted desperately to get her back full-time. His enduring love of hunting gave her pause in pursuing a lasting relationship. Her loving nature changed his views on hunt-ing once he saw Cristina calm a charging wild cougar just by talking to it. From then on, her beauty and her devout love for animals of all kinds, captured his heart and changed his belief in all animal’s desire to live a long happy life. Paul owned multiple no kill clinics that he inherited from his father who shared Cristina’s love of animals in and around Denver Colorado. Together, they fought to eliminate the prac-tice of euthanasia and longed for a time when both could run a large animal sanctuary. A former zoo with a five-hundred-acre tract came on the market and Paul purchased it imme-diately. He was wary of the inexpensive price but purchased it anyway. However, the former owners didn’t relay the property’s deadly past until it was too late. Read how Paul and Cristina navigate the hellish acres of the abandoned Wingate Zoo. Don’t walk in the tall grass. See how they withstand the horrors surrounding them as they strive to stay alive long enough to find a way out of the cursed acres.

In the Never Lands, Birthday Celebrations tend to be a little more festive than in other worlds. No silly little parties with only family and friends, but rather grand balls with princes and princesses and assassins, oh my.
What’s a ball without some intrigue?
Have a Happy Birthday with Prince Christophe as he celebrates in The First Ball.
Fairy Tales just got a little bit darker.

Great little starter story
This short story is a good startup to the Charming series written by Ms. Lawrencovna. It’s easy to read and introduces the characters. Kit, a prince whose father wants him married, hasn’t found a bride. Many balls have been arranged and then he meets someone unexpected. But if you think this is going to be a typical fairy tale, think again.
Very well written.

A WONDERFUL EDITION TO ANYONE’S LIBRARY AND A BOOK FOR THE SEASON

I adored this anthology, each story kept me captivated from beginning to end. From time travel, romance, to mysterious helpful owls, you will not be disappointed with this book.
Which story I liked best would depend upon my mood at the time. Suffice to say that I found none of them disappointing and each in its own way haunting.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED READ.
