Are Preppers Eccentric or Truly On To Something

This series has grabbed onto me more than I expected it too. I haven’t honestly given a lot of thought to “prepper” scenarios, and wasn’t sure I would enjoy reading about it – until I got the first book in this series, and Bailey, Caleb and the rest of the Ranch crew got under my skin. Ms. Jacobey has done a magnificent job of bringing Bailey from her upscale, typical self-centered teen life to a whole new world, and a complete change of priorities and world view.In this installment Bailey has a number of new realities to face, both in her own life and in the things going on in the world as a whole. Though she has grown so much in a very short time, we are reminded that she is still just a teenage girl in many of her actions. They definitely have their own sense of logic at that age – something the author fully grasps and relays to the reader.I read another review that says there was not much going on in this second book of the trilogy. I have to respectfully disagree – I think that is part of the flow of a trilogy, and feel that this was all vital to set the stage for what is to play out in the final book of this series. I cannot wait to see how Samantha brings it all together from here!

Enjoyable continuation of Troianne travel books.

Enjoyable continuation of Troianne travel books. One feature that made it pleasant to read not having to keep track of past characters. The author gives just enough description of necessary information. You don’t lose track of where you were in the story.

“The “corpse magnet” is back!” – “Dead Men Don’t Swing” (Laura & Gerry Mystery #4) by Karen Vaughan

SKY08

The “corpse magnet” is back!

Dead Men Don’t Swing is Karen Vaughan’s bawdy, comedic take on amateur sleuthing. It’s book four in her Laura & Gerry Mystery series. Lots of detective lingo is delivered with wit and sarcasm by the protagonist, Laura. That’s not surprising if you’ve read Vaughan’s previous books in the series, and given the fact that the author has done a bit of stand-up comedy.

In this book, Laura and her husband Gerry are back dealing with another murder investigation since, as Laura explains, she’s a ‘corpse magnet.’ This time a dead body turns up in a dumpster at the apartment complex where Laura and Gerry are managers, having fallen to his death from the balcony above. Not likely an accident—the guy is wearing boxer shorts and sporting a tricked-out stiletto in his forehead. Oh yeah, he’s missing some sensitive body parts—yikes!

Things are not as they seem in this suburban Canadian apartment complex. It turns out there’s a whole lot of hanky-panky going on in this mid-rise Peyton Place, some of it pretty kinky stuff, too. There’s no shortage of pervs and perps on any floor, in addition to the ever-annoying, tenant-from-hell, Stella. As I type the name, I hear Marlon Brando screaming it at the top of his lungs in A Streetcar Named Desire. And, speaking of movies, the photographer played by Jimmy Stewart in Hitchcock’s Rear Window, would have been hard-pressed to know where to shoot first with all the action going on in this complex!

Laura, studying to become a CSI, makes the best of the situation and starts racking up the A-pluses as she incorporates aspects of the investigation into her homework assignments. Of course, even an A-student can get into trouble when word gets out about the direction in which her studiousness is leading. Laura is soon stalked, badgered and beleaguered by tenants and non-tenants alike as the ‘serpentine’ [if you read the book you’ll get my choice of words] plot twists put Laura and her husband Gerry to the test.

Will Laura live long enough to get credentialed as a CSI? Will she and Gerry figure out whodunit and why? Will they ever again make that laundry room at the apartment complex a place you might want to wash your clothes? You’ll have to read the book to find the answers to these and other disturbingly funny questions raised by Karen Vaughan in Dead Men Don’t Swing.

5-star reviewA wonderful collection of poetry.
Ms. Bishop has a way with words, that flow right off the pages and into the reader’s imagination. A great way to brighten your day. I also enjoyed the artwork as well. I loved them all, but my top three favorites are The Mouse, Nana’s Treasure Box and Sunday With Dad. Each of these had special meaning (to me) and memories of my youth.

“Another Carson Reno investigation that you will love!” – “Dead Men Don’t Remember” (Carson Reno Mystery Series, Book 9) by Gerald W. Darnell

Ger dead men don't remember with gun.png
All Carson Reno, Mystery Series Books, are standalone novels. It is not necessary to read them in any particular order.
It’s a New Year, and it has gotten off to a very bad start for Carson.
Several prominent citizens and business leaders from Humboldt are dying in some strange and bizarre accidents. Carson becomes involved when an insurance company hires him to investigate.
What happens next is even more strange and bizarre for this little town in West Tennessee.
The clues are everywhere, but none of them make any sense. It may be that the ‘last man standing’ is responsible for these accidents – but why?

Another Carson Reno investigation that you will love!
Carson Reno starts the New Year with a case in Humboldt where prominent businessmen are being murdered or commit suicide. You will be taken on a remarkable journey as Reno investigates these cases until he finally gets the bad guy!
Darnell’s characters are amazing! They are believable to the point that, along with the storyline, pull you into the investigation.
I highly recommend “Dead Men Don’t Remember” to everyone!

Fantastic twist on Cinderella
By K.M.M.88
This is not the Cinderella Disney told us about. You have a charming (ha) prince, whose primary concern is the future of his people. You have a beautiful, mysterious girl whose primary concern is to assassinate the prince. There are no distressed damsels in Charming, only kickass lady assassins, complicated political drama, and a prince who wants what’s best for his people and the future of his kingdom. Charming is a wonderful beginning to the (very) complicated love story of Eli and Kit, with a fantastic world and engaging characters. Highly recommend!

Once upon a time, or so the story goes, there was a prince who threw a ball to find a wife.
He was a young prince, by his peoples’ standards, and though he had no wish for a bride, he was honor bound to make the attempt to find one. Of course, Prince Kit knew that it was not just honor that bound him to the duty. Prophesied or cursed, who could say, but since he was a babe assassins and soldiers had come for him in the dead of night, in the middle of court, amidst the steps of a waltz, to end his life and with it end the lives of his people, the land he was meant to rule. A heavy burden for a young man to bear, worse for a prince kept cloistered for his own good.
But a wife, well, a wife would provide an heir, and perhaps prevent his peoples’ doom if he died too young, and so he danced with the maiden after maiden, ball after ball, until he danced with her.
She came from out of the Darkness, a vision in a black dress and glass slippers, to join the throng for the prince’s celebration. The first night she hid a small vial filled with arsenic in the folds of her gown, but it was knocked from her hand before she could upend it into his glass of champagne. The second night she brought a stiletto hilted in her garter that she never thought to draw and returned to her bags unblooded. The third night Eli ran from him, found her horse and fled back to the forest she came from, desperate to escape his charming smile and the emotion she refused to acknowledge in his gaze that turned in her heart too.
He gave chase, and what is an assassin meant to do when her prey hunts her down?
One waltz at a ball. One trip of a slipper. One Prince. And one Assassin.

Charming…simply, Charming.

“Great continuation of an enticing world.” – “His Soul to Hold” (The Dark Knights of Heaven Book 2) by TW Knight

Battle.jpg#TheDarkKnightsofHeaven #Fallenangels #paranormalromance
Soulless and exiled from Heaven the Dark Knights have not abandoned their duty. For millennia they’ve battled demons, protecting humankind from Lucifer’s servants. Less than a year ago hundreds of demons escaped Hell world-wide, stretching the Knights resources to their limits. Now they face the greatest challenge of all—discovering love.
Breanna Thorn spent the last ten years fighting demons with her twin brother Sam, and she’s damn good at it. But at twenty-three all she really wants is a normal life with dating, college, and quiet. To balance the life she wants and the life she has, Bree studies demons and other supernatural creatures in hopes of better understanding the enemy. When she meets fallen angel Bass, Bree encounters a complication she never saw coming—love.
Bass’ persona of hedonism begins to crumble when he meets Breanna. She’s beautiful, intelligent, a kick-ass fighter and the vessel for his immortal soul. He knows he’s no good for her but no matter how hard he tries to make Bree hate him; she keeps finding a way into his heart. He’ll do anything to keep her safe even if it means giving up everything he is.
After their parents are killed by monsters, demons, Sam Thorn focuses his life on protecting his sister and hunting the creatures that changed their lives. Now he finds himself swept up in a world where he’s surrounded by monsters and at risk of losing his sister—something he cannot, will not allow. When the rage burning inside him breaks, free Sam finds he is a greater danger than the monsters he fears.
Hogart once walked the halls of Heaven, now he battles with voices in his head driving him further and further into madness. Being taken in by his fellow fallen angels, The Dark Knights, is both a blessing and a curse. Their energy quiets the demon within him, but now he is permanently housed with the twins Sam and Breanna. The voices insist he kills them; his heart says otherwise.
5-star review

Great continuation of an enticing world.
By A. Bock
As the second book in the Dark Knights of Heaven series, this story focuses on Bass & Bree. These two are lonely and desperate to fill the void they sense in themselves all amidst demon attacks and personal turmoil. Bass, a former angel, banished from Heaven, hides behind a mask of debauchery that he’s built over the centuries. But it all changes when he finds Bree in the Alaskan wilderness where she and her twin brother, Sam, are fighting back demons. In the process a mysterious figure from the twins’ past steps into the light and ties the heroes closer to those they’d rather leave far away.

The world so enchanting and exciting in the first book is expanded in the second. The characters introduced in book one are present and further expanded. This makes the world more vivid and enticing. Even though the ending seems to come out of nowhere, the story leaves me anticipating the next installment. I cannot wait to find out what happens next!
