This is a story of Paul Holtz and his horrific upbringing. The family lived next to the famed cemetery in the small New York town of Sleepy Hollow with his three older brothers and loving mother. His father, a fan of horror stories, peppered him with horrific tales of monsters that dwelled in the dark scary cemetery beside his home. Many a night young Paul gazed from his second story bedroom window to see the monsters, known as The Groundsmen, who his father assured were there and waiting in the darkness for unsuspecting and non-believing victims.
His father had no idea what effect his stories had on Paul’s young mind. Nightly, his fat5her sat his young son’s down and plying them with blood and guts stories of what The Groundsmen do to people should they ever venture forth in the graveyard. Paul grew up scared and felt strange even walking past the cemetery on his way to school.
A few years later, a prank that his father and older brothers pulled on Paul, sent him into the world of mental illness and fear. He dropped Paul into the cemetery at night and left him there. All the while. They hid in the bushes and made noises in the dark to add to Paul’s hysteria. After his father killed himself in the cemetery and after a year-long stint in the local mental hospital, he came back to find that all of his father’s stories came true and soon he found himself in the fight of his life trying to save his brothers from the evil Groundsmen. The fight against what he saw and what he believed begins in this hell-raising tale of deceit, monsters, and murder.

Sniper is not only the story of Taylor and Beth falling in love, but it’s also a story about the love of a family who refuses to let go of one of their own and is determined to help him fight any battle, even if he’s fighting himself. I’ve been waiting for Taylor’s story for a long time. From the first time, e appeared in Cloud’s book he tugged at my heartstrings He went from being an adolescent boy no one wanted to a beloved son and brother that many looked up to. After honorably serving his country as a Navy Seal, he came home with lots of medals but also with PTSD after a heartbreaking incident during a battle.Every time a brother finds a woman the MC finds themselves at war. Although there was lots of action in Sniper with the obligatory gunfights and kidnappings, the actual war fought was Taylor and his family fighting against his PTSD. With Beth, he had the added worry of possibly harming her during a flashback.
I loved Taylor. He was everything I adore in a book boyfriend. Alpha to his core, but a wounded warrior and unbelievably strong. He was loyal and heart-meltingly loving towards his family, especially Mucimi, Brantley’s toddler son. Beth was the perfect heroine for Taylor. She had an open mind and was completely patient and understanding with everything he and his crazy family threw at her.
I can’t tell you how much I appreciate that Sniper didn’t make light of PTSD by making it seemingly miraculously easy for Taylor to overcome. Even with all the freaky healing abilities of his brothers and cousins, there was no simple fix for him. He had to make the decision to take the steps to learn how to deal with his triggers so he could lead a long, normal life. The importance of family and friends to the healing process was showcased as was the fact that so many of our military do not receive the assistance they deserve.
Although Taylor’s journey to overcome his PTSD is the main theme of the book, there is lots of action including gunfights and kidnapping attempts to keep things interesting. The antics of both the MC and Princes family kept me smiling, and Taylor and Beth had plenty of sexy times to keep the heat level where I like it – up high. There were some editing issues, but I expect these with L. Ann Marie’s books. Regardless of the editing problems, I read Sniper all the way through in one sitting.

I loved this new addition to the Timekeepers series. It wasn’t all fairytale driven, but touched on a critical, yet disturbing part of our history – WW2 and the Nazis. Again, the traveling group were a great cast of characters and interesting. I think Sharon has done an excellent job in building her characters. The scenes were action packed and you actually were afraid for the kids. I also liked the fact that there was some darkness to the story, not all “happyland”. And she touched on other subjects that a lot of middle and young authors are afraid to.I believe the youth of today will benefit from stories that outline our jaded past and teach them that not all is roses and whip cream. How else do we learn if we don’t learn from our past?
I did enjoy it from beginning to end and would recommend this book for middle-grade kids, and a few big kids as well! The history is welcomed and the story, however a reminder for is, is wonderful.

I love the way Emlyn uses her ancestor’s book to spark her already over-active imagination and tap into subconscious conclusions. Like any good writer, Emlyn’s nosy and pays attention to details. Her new-found talent for magic supplements her compulsion to solve puzzles, even though she puts herself and friends in danger in the process.
But these are Aliens pretending to be Angels… They have been discovered, but can Charlie and Clarisse defeat the dark powers that be?
