After graduating from the crime scene investigator course, Laura and Gerry escape for some quality time in Jamaica. As usual, things are not going according to Hoyle for Cookie the corpse magnet as another murder takes place. The victim was obnoxious and not widely admired by his fellow vacationers, but what did Donovan Mitchell do to deserve death?

There were several twists and turns that I wasn’t expecting and that attests to the author’s ability to weave a great mystery novel. Laura and Gerry are your typical Canadians, willing to help out in a pinch even if they’re not asked. This makes them loveable to the readers but annoying to the criminal element. They, particularly Laura, put their lives on the line and get in the crosshairs of a dangerous drug cartel to solve the murder of someone they didn’t even like. That’s so Canadian by the way! Anyway, I gave Jamaica Dead 5 stars yuh dun know (of course).

Karen started her literary journey in 2005 when she was home on sick leave and was tired of staring at the four walls or twiddling her thumbs. An idea for what would become DEAD ON ARRIVAL popped into her head and the feisty 30 something character Laura wouldn’t leave her alone til her story was written. Laura took a break from pestering the poor author so she could write a free-standing novel DEAD COMIC STANDING. Soon Laura was on the campaign to get Karen back to what would become the Laura and Gerry series. It now has 7 books, the latest being DEAD TO WRITES. Karen is the proud mom of one, step-mom of 4 grown kids, and 2 grandchildren. While not writing her fingers to the bone she hosts WRITERS ROUNDTABLE, an online radio show the second Tuesday of each month. She is also a partner with Viv Drewa in OWL & PUSSYCAT PROMOTIONS. promoting independent authors. Karen is also a standup comedian who does her routine for local talent nights. She also loves reading, crafts, and drawing.

When the dismembered body of a young woman is found, Detectives Joe Leverette and Philip Marsden are assigned the case. After investigating the Port Huron, Michigan area where the six body parts were found, but there’s a twist in the case: The Murderer goes after each individual who found the parts, one by one.

Leverette becomes interested in one of the women, Carole Sage, a sensitive, but because of the case, he’s not able to take it any further. Everyone on the police force sees his infatuation, but Carole does not.

Each of the six witnesses has a dream about the murderer removing the particular body part they found that night. They are startled awake and hear an owl hoot three times. None of them want to reveal their dream to the detectives.

Carole sees the actual murder and each murder as it happens to the witnesses. The police chief, Billingsley, understands her ‘gift’ and sets up a sting to catch him. It fails and they have to regroup to think of something else. Two witnesses are dead and they don’t want a third to die.

Highly Suspenseful, Well-Written Murder Mystery

This highly suspenseful, well-written murder mystery opens with a grizzly, horrific murder that gives nightmares to several people not related to the murder in any way. Likable, believable characters draw the reader into the nightmare, while the baffled but competent police work feverishly to stop the killer before he kills again. I highly recommend this book. Ms. Drewa write faster!

Viv is a Michigan native who has enjoyed reading and writing since 1963. Though she studied medicinal chemistry at the University of Michigan her passion has always been writing.

She was awarded third place for her nonfiction short story about her grandfather’s escape from Poland. Later, she rewrote this story and was published in the “Polish American Journal” as “”From the Pages of Grandfather’s Life” and recently had it published again on Amazon.com

Viv took creative and journalism courses to help in her transition to fulfill her dream of becoming a writer. She worked as an intern for Port Huron’s ‘The Times Herald”, and also wrote, edited and did the layout or the Blue Water Multiple Sclerosis newsletter “Thumb Prints.”
