A zombie novel YA readers can sink their teeth into!!!
Author, Skyler Rankin, has truly created a good read in the short novel, Viral Dawn. Although nothing new has been introduced into the zombie mythos, Ms. Logsdon has succeeded in merging just about every traditional zombie aspect that I have encountered, either through literature or film. However, this fact does not take away from the reading experience but instead enhances it. The main character, Casey, is a strong female lead, supported by a well-developed cast of characters. Casey finds herself thrust into a world of flesh-eating zombies that tend to only come out at night. However, there are a few subtle hints in the story that there is simply more to them than that. Perhaps they are evolving? If you wish to know more, I suggest you read the book.
The work is well written and flows at a nice pace, with a few slow parts that seem to coincide with what Casey is experiencing and feeling. I would have liked a little more action in the story, but it is enough to get you through, connected with bouts of drama and intelligent dialogue. For a zombie novel, the blood and gore are kept to a tasteful level, just right.
The end of the story leaves the reader with a heavy cliffhanger, keeping you wanting more. I would most definitely be interested in experiencing more of the world in which Viral Dawn takes place and would recommend this book to the average young adult reader and older audiences.

Easily Another 5 Stars for this Final Book in the Trilogy

I always find it difficult to write reviews for books deeper in series/trilogies because I absolutely do not want to give away any spoilers to earlier books in the series.

This trilogy grabbed me in ways that I absolutely did not expect it to – which is a high compliment from me. From the beginning, you know that the theme of this trilogy is apocalyptic, which isn’t usually a genre I seek out, but i enjoy this author and her versatility a lot, so decided to be open-minded about it. As would be expected in the final book of such a trilogy, there is an end of days scenario, but it plays out in a spine-tingling realistic way. It certainly made me think between the releases, and more surprisingly, long after I had read the last page.

Perhaps because this is not a favored genre of mine, I found the plot to have many unexpected twists and turns, but I honestly feel that credit goes directly to Ms. Jacobey rather than lack of familiarity. Regardless of the source, I absolutely loved every one of the twists and turns, and the depth of all the characters, especially those who showed surprising change and/or growth.

Highly recommended!

There had to be something Kendra Atkins was missing in life, and Charles Ford knew it was nothing but him. The only thing he had to do was convince her that he was all she would ever need and that he felt that way since the day the met ten years prior, hours before she became his first lover… when he was twenty-two.
In his twenty-second year of life, Charles Ford was still a virgin. Like any other man, including his identical twin, he wanted sex, but he wanted his first time to mean something other than getting inside a woman’s body.
By the time she was twenty, Kendra had sex with two men and not with outstanding results. It was just about the experience; wanting to see what the deal was about. She could take it or leave it especially since the men she slept with only wanted what her body had to offer. Kendra has never been in a relationship, and after her disastrous sexual encounters, she decided never to exchange personal info with the next man, any man, she slept with.
On a beach in Florida, Kendra and Charles meet, and Kendra takes Charles’ virginity, and all they know of one another is the nicknames they agreed to call one another: ‘Honey’ and ‘Babe.’ No other names, no numbers and no idea how to reach one another, just as Kendra wanted it. She wanted that as much as she would regret that decision later, specifically 10 years later when Kendra and Charles reconnect… and she has no idea who he is or what she was to him.

The Divide Boxed Set: Darkness Descends & The Between Times by Marta Moran Bishop – #ScienceFiction&Fantasy, #Fantasy, #AlternativeHistory, #ScienceFiction, #Dystopian

Marta the divide.jpg

Marta Moran Bishop’s Darkness Descends is powerful, gripping work! It’s a compelling, sometimes scathing prequel to her first series title, The Between Times. Set in a dystopian city-state, Bishop indicts a patriarchal oligarchy that feeds a rape culture at the same time as it plots the overthrow of the rule of law with the anarchic rule of a well-managed mob psyche. The Roman people were given bread and circuses. The crowds in Darkness Descends are handed Rebecca, Jewell’s mother, and a crucial charter character of the series, who faces public torture, humiliation, assault, and finally, auto-da-fé, burning at the stake, which she accepts as her fate as the ultimate sacrifice for a greater good. Bishop pulls no punches. The blows land all the harder when one realizes she is not working solely from imagination. She has incorporated into her literary tapestry the warp of today’s culture, with the weft of actual history, including a chilling early Twentieth Century plot by brutal American financial moguls to overthrow the United States government. Who knew?! This book is devastating. I’m praying for an uplifting third installment to arrive in my Kindle soon, but given Bishop’s dim view of humanity and history, I’m not holding out too much hope for a Pixar ending. Every win in Bishop’s world comes at a great price, and the brilliant Darkness Descends is no exception. Of course, I absolutely can’t wait to see what Bishop will come up with next!
Robert Blake Whitehill, Author/Screenwriter – The Ben Blackshaw Series
What if…for the first time in the history of the United States we took a social and economic nose dive into oblivion? THE BETWEEN TIMES is just such a scenario. A story that reads like a folktale from the past, but in reality is a fantastic possibility based on the choices available to us today.
The premise is nothing short of an incredible imagination as modern day Chicago fades into an evil darkness separated by a wall. A separateness ruled by the upper society that isolates and mistreats the poor. These less fortunate people, in a short amount of time, find themselves forced to live in the lower communities suffering from mistreatment comparable only to the concentration camps during WWII. Women are no longer human beings but are nothing more than breeding animals kept only to prevent the extinction of the race. The conditions are bleak and seemingly hopeless.
It is the belief in a Legend that becomes the driving force behind the survival. A young girl named Jewel, living in the captivity of this devastating socioeconomic environment, is the dream. She manifests hope and magic from within this beautiful tale.
Fantastical, Magical, & Mystical in a story that will make you believe it is about a long forgotten past, but in reality is a possible future! I wholeheartedly recommend this remarkable highly imaginative novel!

Saving Cassie–A Very Good Read
By flo

First time reading a paranormal novel. Did not realize it when I purchased it. Was surprised that it held my attention throughout the book. In the past when I saw a paranormal book, I bypassed it without even reading the introduction. In saving Cassie, I was hooked from page one. I really loved the brother and sister relationship between Cassie and James. I felt their loving relationship added a lot to the story. I enjoyed Cassie’s feisty attitude the first time she met Logan when he stopped her for speeding. There were a lot of situations that Ms. Remenicky added to her story that made the book enjoyable for me. For instance, the way that Cassie’s grandmother could communicate with her and help keep her safe from the demon showed how much she loved her granddaughter. I enjoyed reading how Cassie and Logan’s love for each other developed over the weeks. I want to thank Ms. Remenicky for being able to read a book without any foul language included in the story. I also liked that Cassie was able to get pregnant and had a baby girl at the end—that was a nice surprise. I also enjoyed the book because the love scenes were tastefully done. For anyone who likes to read books without vulgar language and explicit sex scenes gives this book a try. It even makes you laugh at times. I would read another of L.A. Remenicky’s books again.

Horse Tales (Carson Reno Mystery Series, Book 4) by Gerald W. Darnell – #MysteryThriller&Suspense, #Thrillers&Suspense, #Crime, #Cozy, #Animals, #CrimeFiction

Ger horse tales with 2.png
Line BlurbAll Carson Reno Mystery Series Books are standalone novels. It is not necessary to read them in any particular order.
It was a disaster beyond most people’s comprehension.
There was nothing left standing of the barn, it had burned completely to the ground. Among the rubble and smoking wood, you could see the smoking corpses – which had once been some of the finest thoroughbred stallions in the Tennessee and Kentucky area.
Unnoticed, among these ruins, were the burned remains of Aaron Nunamaker, owner of ‘Nunamaker Stables,’ and one of the best-known horse breeders and stud farm owners in West Tennessee.
Killing a human being brings the wrath of the law and the accompanying sorrow and grief from loved ones. Killing a helpless animal brings wrath that is unequaled to that associated with killing a person. This sorrow and grief continue long after the grief over human loss has left. Mankind will forget their own losses, but they never forget similar betrayals to animals. Odd isn’t it?
The fire had, obviously, been set and was a deliberate murder of innocent animals-horses. Horses that could not free themselves from their comfortable stable, horses that trusted their caregiver and felt safe in their home. Horses that died a terrible death, and horses that would never know how they became involved in such a terrible scheme and plan.
Tracks revealed that many of the doomed horses had been led from another barn to the one that was burned. This made it more than an act of revenge or rage, but one intended to destroy the animals, all at once, and all at one time.
Other than car and horse tracks, the clues were minimal or non-existent. Police roped off the area and considered it an accident or a rival/revenge act until they found the body. Then things changed.
He had been shot once at close range with a high powered rifle. The bullet entered his center chest and exited to some unknown parts of the barn or maybe the surrounding ground. His body was burned beyond normal recognition, like the horses, but his engraved Horseshoe ring, which he always wore proudly on his right-hand ring finger, made preliminary identification possible.

Carson Reno Rocks

This is the first I’ve read of the Carson Reno series. It’s a fun, easy mystery with a lovable character, Carson Reno, who carries you through the story like he’s your best friend. You will come away feeling like you sat at Chief’s with him and had a hamburger while he told his tale. Enjoyed this book!
