Wonderful fiction which will take you immediately into another mysterious world!

The Choosing by Marta Moran Bishop is an amazing fiction describing the ancient culture and customs of a fictional tribe.

The main character is a young woman named Mondoani elected by gods to be an apprentice of Old Mother, who was the memory keeper of the tribe. Foreseeing the imminent end, Old Mother hurry to make Mondoani the new memory keeper, who will protect the tribe and provide it with a safe and happy existence.

To do this, they go on a long and arduous journey together with the tribe to implement the transfer of power ceremony at the designated location.

The story takes place on the background of beautiful descriptions of ancient customs and culture of the tribe, which worships many gods.

Upon arrival at the designated place, Old Mother falls into a trance to make the transfer of the power to Mondoani. Unfortunately, Old Mother will never come out of this trance, which became the last one in her deserved life. Mondoani becomes the new memory keeper of the tribe, who should lead it and protect against adversity, asking gods about welfare.

Becoming the new memory keeper, Mondoani herself begins to worry about how to find a new apprentice. Looking for a new apprentice, Mondoani regrettably realizes that she will take away the daughter from her mother, and deprive her of happiness to have children and normal life. She also understands perfectly the state of the unfortunate mother. Mondoani begins to bother when she realizes that the choice could fall on beautiful Ashtra, daughter of Naomi.

When it comes to action, Sky Spirit and Spider-Woman do much-unexpected choice: they choose Towandiaka on the one hand, and on the other Ashtra. Then they bring them together and announce them bonded in holy matrimony not only in this life but also in the next! This will, of course, allow them to have children and be happy parents.

This moment, emotionally described by Marta, made me so happy that I felt radiating myself. The gods then chose not one but two young women who have become Mondoani’s apprentices.

The book gave me a great pleasure not only because of perfect plot, but also because of wonderful and realistic description of the culture and customs of the ancient tribe. I had the feeling that Marta may witness it herself in some mysterious way. It will remain a mystery to me forever. Reading the book, I felt I’am where.

The Choosing by Marta Moran Bishop is a special tribute to the culture and traditions of our ancestors, it teaches us to live in peace and harmony with nature and respect each other. Highly recommended!

Jerry’s has lived his life, taking the path of least resistance and never trying to make his life remarkable, accept in his own mind. If it required a real effort, Jerry wasn’t interested at least, not until the day he found the box and met the hollowers.

Written in a Twilight Zone or Alfred Hitchcock style.

A GREAT HUMORESQUE 🙂 🙂 :)The Hollowers by Patricia Moran is a great Humoresque about a man named Jerry who lived in his own fascinating dream world. Jerry is a loser who invented his own perfect world where he is very important and James Bond-like. The author describes Jerry in an ironic and humorous style that made me laugh loudly several times. Jerry is ridiculous trying to hide his balding head by combing his hair over it, and “tossing his coat over his shoulder in what he felt gave him a James Bond look.”Everything in life has its logical end. Following his foolish dreams and idiotic thinking brings Jerry to a mysterious ancient box, the meeting with which becomes so exciting and fatal for him. The mysterious glow coming out of the box fully possesses his mind… and body. What happened to Jerry? What was in the box?I think it’s a great Humoresque. I would highly recommend to read it if you want to relax after a busy working day. It will relieve your stress and make you laugh!Leyla Atke

“Dinky: The Nurse Mare’s Foal” by Marta Moran Bishop – #CraftsHobbies&Home, #AnimalCare&Pets, #Horses

Winnie Award Winner at the Equus Film Festival. Best Equine Rescue book.
Dinky: The Nurse Mare’s Foal is the story of one little foals fight for survival after being taken from his mother within hours of his birth. Dinky, takes us on a poignant trip through the heart and mind of an animal, who was born for the sole purpose of producing milk in the mare. In the elite world of horses, Dinky was considered a by-product, a ‘junk foal.’

Dinky’s story will resonate with animal lovers, as well as anyone who has adopted. Although a horse, his story has been called an adoption story. The reader can follow him through the heartbreak, cruelty, loneliness, and finally to happiness in his forever home. His story is based on true events. Each event from the moment the author met Dinky actually happened, though it is the author’s interpretation of what he might have been thinking and feeling during the occasions described in his story. His early life which is unknown has been fictionalized by the author and constructed through research and imagination.

There are many wonderful animal rescue leagues, many are very empathic to these young animals, though some are not. Since Ms. Bishop has no knowledge of Dinky’s early days, she used the latter to enhance the strength of his story.

It will break your heart, open your eyes, lift you up, and teach you much about horses. It is suitable for all ages.

A Poignant Book For All Ages

Dinky: The Nurse Mare’s Foal is a memoir told from the first person’s POV (point of view). What makes this memoir unlike any other is that the first person (narrator) is Dinky, a foal whose life begins as a seemingly insurmountable struggle. He survives mistreatment and continued disappointments during his early life.

He longs for the time he spent with his mother who adored him. But he was so young when he was taken from her, that he was confused and lonely. Additionally, he hadn’t learned all the lessons of life that would help him in the coming years. However, in their short time together mom infused her love into Dinky’s heart and mind while reassuring him that he was smarter than most horses and would grow up to be strong. Dinky’s strength would be tested throughout his young life particularly in the areas of learning the ways of a herd and to be able to trust people again.

Luckily for Dinky, a delightful couple named Ken and Marta recognized his beauty..inside and out, adopted him and taught him what it felt like to be nurtured and loved. As Dinky stated, “They even learned how to speak horse.” Dinky is both a story of loss as well as a lesson on the power of love to heal.

It is rare that an author can write in the first person and make it feel totally authentic. Author Marta Moran Bishop masters this task brilliantly. A reader of any age who loves and respects animals of all kinds will be deeply touched by this book.

Wee Three: A Mother’s Love in Verse, began with a few simple verses written by Helen Springer Moran, Ms. Bishop’s grandmother. Marta Moran Bishop expanded those verses, wrote others and Wee Three was born.

Wee Three, is guaranteed to make you smile, laugh, and remember the days of your own youth.

It is a highly entertaining read for both children and adults and will delight the reader with its simple verses. If you enjoyed, A.A. Milne or Robert Louis Stevenson’s children’s verses, you are sure to love Ms. Bishop’s, Wee Three: A Mother’s Love in Verse.

A Treat for the Kids

There’s immensely significant role quality literature plays in making the personality of the children. It gives them the ability to dream, ability to love and ability to hope in the world which is largely unmoved by their existence. It helps them cherish the beauty of life. It is important for parents to realize that children poetry is more than absurd rhyming words. They need to give new eyes to the child to observe the world with. That is precisely what this book does. It became a daily staple of my five year old and I just recollected that I have not reviewed this. This is an amazing book and it so delicately introduces the child to the beauty of literature, of beauty, of life. Do pick up, it will lighten up those nights when your little one snuggles on to you.

“The Between Times” (Jewell in the Dark, Volume II) by Marta Moran Bishop – #Horror, #Occult, #ContemporaryFiction

Animated GIF-downsized_large.gif
Line Blurb

In the days when the corporations rule the world. The middle class is gone, and the cities are divided into upper and lower towns.

The upper towns are domed to protect the rich from the foul air that permeates the world, from the waste that fills the air, and fumes that blacken the sky from the smokestacks of the factories. The water is heavily rationed in the lower towns and barely drinkable, so fouled by the chemicals that fill the rivers and springs.

While in the upper town the water is purified even in the fountains and swimming pools that grace the world of the high and mighty. The shops, boutiques, restaurants, and museums are crowded in the upper town, music can be heard everywhere, and the flowers grow tall and beautiful.

While the people of the lower towns work six days a week, in sixteen to eighteen-hour shifts. There one day off is Sunday, it is then that the men and young boys must be found in the church, while the women and girls are kept at home, for they are considered to be beasts for breeding and less important than the animals that grace the zoos of the upper towns. Food is scarce in the lower town, and the only market is the company store.

The world has stepped back into the dark ages. Nearly all hope is gone to those not born into wealth and only the prophecy that one day a young woman will come who can control the magic of the between times keeps the poor going. It is said she will be able to pull on the energy of all those who are of like mind, wrap that energy together and send it into the world to remake it.

Marta Moran Bishop takes the reader through a possible future. Unlike Orwell’s, Animal Farm and 1984, or Ray Bradbury’s Fahrenheit 451, The Between Times is not based on the government ‘Big Brother,’ but rather it is written using a recent ruling by the Supreme Court that says corporations are people. In The Between Times, we are shown the possibility of a world where the poor are considered to be a beast of burden, good only for the labor they can produce or the war they can fight, to enable the war profiteers to make more money.

Poor women are used for breeding and considered to be the property of men and the corporation. There is no way for the uneducated and isolated poor, move up the latter, for the middle class is gone.

In this short novel, The United States had taken a social, economic, and cultural step backward, to a time when our world consisted of lords and serfs. The only thing that keeps those who are not in the ruling class of the elite, going is the belief in a prophecy, that one day a girl will be born who will have the ability to unite all kindred spirits past, present, and future, to bring change to the world.

A truly amazingly imaginative book.

The Between Times are NOW!Marta Moran Bishop’s The Between Times is a terrific allegory–until the sucker punch. You think you’re reading a dystopian story set in some future time. Then you suddenly realize Bishop is writing about right now: The Between Times is a period in which we still have a chance save all we hold dear. Fail to marshal our collective powers, and we fail as a society, a culture, as a nation-state, and the beacon to the world that America has always been being snuffed, never to be reignited. Penned with all the visceral indictments of Sinclair’s The Jungle, we admire and pity Ben, fear for Jewell, grieve Roxanne and loathe Mr. Horton and his kind. There is a cliffhanger ending that made me need to know more. Will the uprising in The Between Times save us? This series would make fascinating movies.

“Darkness Descends” (Jewell in the Dark, Book 1) by Marta Moran Bishop – #ScienceFiction&Fantasy, #ScienceFiction, #Dystopian, #Fantasy, #Historical

Line Blurb

Darkness Descends, Volume I in the (Jewell in the Dark) series, is the prequel to The Between Times.

While suffering unbearable agony at the hands of ‘The New World Order, Rebecca’s mind slips in and out of the past. During the torture inflicted upon her, she recollects why it is happening to her and what is at stake for the USA. The new fascist government has enslaved everyone who is not wealthy, sentencing them to a life of squalor, sweatshops, and war.

She remembers the prophecy taught to her by her parents that her daughter Jewell has the power within her to use the magic of the between times to gather together the power of the people and overturn the New World Order. It is for this she was born.

Rebecca is finally able to call upon the power during the between times and thus find the strength to face the ordeal that is to come.

“I feel this is a story that deserves to be told. I would like to see it marketed as one novel together with The Between Times. Together they make a great novel that could proudly sit on the same shelf with George Orwell’s works. I highly recommend they both be read together and in order.” – Franki deMerle, author, and poet.

Read this Book!!!!
By Robert Blake Whitehill

Marta Moran Bishop’s Darkness Descends is powerful, gripping work! It’s a compelling, sometimes scathing prequel to her first series title, The Between Times. Set in a dystopian city-state, Bishop indicts a patriarchal oligarchy that feeds a rape culture at the same time as it plots the overthrow of the rule of law with the anarchic rule of a well-managed mob psyche. The Roman people were given bread and circuses. The crowds in Darkness Descends are handed Rebecca, Jewell’s mother, and a crucial charter character of the series, who faces public torture, humiliation, assault, and finally, auto-da-fé, burning at the stake, which she accepts as her fate as the ultimate sacrifice for a greater good. Bishop pulls no punches. The blows land all the harder when one realizes she is not working solely from imagination. She has incorporated into her literary tapestry the warp of today’s culture, with the weft of actual history, including a chilling early Twentieth Century plot by brutal American financial moguls to overthrow the United States government. Who knew?! This book is devastating. I’m praying for an uplifting third installment to arrive in my Kindle soon, but given Bishop’s dim view of humanity and history, I’m not holding out too much hope for a Pixar ending. Every win in Bishop’s world comes at a great price, and the brilliant Darkness Descends is no exception. Of course, I absolutely can’t wait to see what Bishop will come up with next!

Astarte, grew up an orphan in the tribe and she had no recollection of ever having known her mother. From childhood, she could hear the silver ringing of the music of the fairies as they twirled in the moonlight below the caves. She saw them dancing, the fireflies glittering in and around them, adding a shimmer of gold in the moonlight.
Why could no one else see them? What made Astarte different than the other children of the tribe? Why did discontent fill her soul at the idea of moving with the tribe and leaving the fairies behind and why did the idea that she would be required to marry into one of the other tribes when she reached her majority scare her so much?

Awesome children’s book!

The Night Of The Fairies by Marta Moran Bishop is an amazing short fiction story. In her book, Marta tells about a little orphan Astarte, who tries to find out who is she and where does she belong.

Astarte is a special one. No one in her tribe could understand her or see what she could see. She is coming of age and soon to be traded to another tribe, to another man. She does not want that, she wants to stay in the same place, with fairies. One night, she witnesses a group of fairies, and watching them, continues thinking about who she is. “Who I am?” “What am I?” – Asks she all the time. She is also surprised by exploring her body, which is beginning to change. Astarte has so many questions! You have to read this short, charming story to find the answers!

I liked the flow of the story and wonderful descriptions by Marta Moran Bishop. I think it is awesome! I would recommend this book to any parent who has a child.

Marta Moran Bishop continues her journey in Sunlight and Shadows. This book of poetry, unlike A Poet’s Journey: Emotions, is a more thought provoking book. In its pages, she covers everything from God, to life after death, war, and the shooting in Newtown, Connecticut. Still she is able to bring to life the beauty and grandeur of her surroundings and make us laugh, cry, think, and feel.

Sunlight and Shadows will once again, take you on an emotional journey through life.

I believe it is how we deal with despair, tragedy, and joy that define us as human beings.

A Poet’s Journey: Sunlight and Shadows – A Tribute

This lovely collection of poetry is a wonderful addition to Ms. Bishop’s poetic imagery. Starting with Abused, an abrupt awakening to the plight of many women, through Lost Ones, an aching tribute to the Newtown Angels, and continuing through Civility she takes us on an emotional journey through life, ”…what could be said in one sentence is stated in a million words” concluding with “Honesty is good and helps, But not without courtesy.” From the great sense of loss in Shadows through the beauty and hope in Sunlight and Shadows, and the tribute in Honor to those who served and still serve, this is a lovely collection of poetry by a talented author.
