Another great Carson Reno story!
Carson is now on the other side of the law, or at least that’s the way it looks. It’s a great new story for Carson, and full of unpredictable twists and mysteries. I am a big fan of Darnell and of course, Carson, so I was very excited to read this new story. It’s one of my favorites of the series, but of course, Carson is one of my favorite characters. It’s a hard-hitting, magnificent bout of storytelling. Couldn’t put it down until the end!

A man has disappeared while duck hunting and things surrounding his disappearance are troubling.
Carson has been hired by an insurance company to resolve a $1.5 million dollar life insurance claim, but things get quickly complicated. Bodies appear, and it seems that these deaths might be connected to the missing hunter – but how?
Facts reveal that the missing man’s job as an independent truck driver is linked to his disappearance, and perhaps to the mysterious murders. Carson’s investigation unearths some very unusual characters, along with a wife who appears to be interested in everything but finding her missing husband.
Conflicts with the Memphis police are getting in the way of the investigation, and the urgency is escalated when another body is discovered.
This case has more twists than a large bag of pretzels, and just when it seems to be going in the right direction – it changes.

Another Magnificent Carson Reno caper!
As a big fan of Darnell, I absolutely love the Carson Reno series. Each story can be read independently, but each story is worth the read! Another interesting case drops in Reno’s lap, and it is more than just what it seems at first. This author brings the stories to life. There is a great chemistry between the cast of characters and a depth that makes them realistic and flawed. Reno soon finds out that his missing persons’ case is more than typical. The clues, the twists and turns, and its ups and downs, The Innocent Stranger is a magnificent read. The thrills and intrigue is written clearly and the characterizations are engrossing. Love this story. It is always a joy to read this author’s stories and the reader is always brought on a bumpy and intriguing journey. The author’s technique of intense characters and great plotlines is a gift. I like the addition of the graphics, and how Reno tells his own story and his perceptions of what is going on. He has quite a band of friends that keeps the story moving. I look forward to reading many more stories by this author. This book is a definite recommendation by Amy’s Bookshelf Reviews.

Severed Finger!
The Black and White pictures mixed in with the story is classic! The Jack Daniels, the butcher knife, and the severed finger. Darnell’s style of writing, along with the sparse photos, paints a vivid picture in my mind and keeps me turning the pages. I’ve read one Carson Reno book before this and have to admit I am hooked. I don’t think Gerald Darnell can top this Reno Carson story. If you are going to read a Reno Carson, this is the one!

Carson has been hired to locate a client’s missing brother, and it quickly gets complicated.
Somehow the missing brother is linked to a gangster who has stolen thousands from the mafia, but that link isn’t clear. Carson’s search doesn’t turn up the brother, but it does turn up a body – the body of a gangster who was on a mission of murder.
It seems that the Memphis Mafia and the Memphis Police are also searching for his client’s brother. Finding him first becomes a real priority.
The pursuit takes him to New Orleans, where a whole new mystery unfolds, which puts Carson in some very serious danger.
Then, if possible, things get worse.
More bodies appear while the Mafia chases their money, and it seems people are not who they claim to be.
This old fashion crime story takes Carson Reno and his crew on a complicated adventure, where it seems the solution may be worse than the problem.

Darnell’s stories are never disappointing!
Another great Carson Reno story and Darnell delivers it so well. With all the books in this series I have read, I think each new one Darnell releases gets better. This reader loves the character of Reno and the interesting cases that Darnell puts in front of him. Filled with action, mystery, and a grand investigation by Reno, and his cohorts. I loved this story, and it definitely kept me on the edge of my seat. Cops and mobsters are just the beginning and filled with twists and unpredictability, this is a magnificent story. It’s more than just a story or page-turner, it’s a heart-pounder as well. I look forward to reading more by this author, in this series or anything he wants to release. This book is a definite recommendation by Amy’s Bookshelf Reviews.

A Carson Reno Mystery
Murder and More is a quite intriguing story. The author does well to take the readers back in history. The scenery was very well described, the characters three-dimensional and interesting. The story pops out from the pages and you’re really just watching a movie–that’s how engrossing it was…for me, anyway.
This is the fourteenth installment of the Carson Reno series but is a stand-alone. We get the sense of who Carson is without knowing anything about this novel’s predecessors.
Carson is a very likable man, but I had trouble discerning how old he was. Sometimes he seemed to be in his mid-thirties, while other times he appeared to be much older. Either way, he gets his job done well.
Throughout the novel were various photos that help remind us that it’s set back in time. While I enjoyed the old-time landscaping and sign photos at times, some of the photos were beginning to become a bit of a nuisance, making it more of a picture book.
I did rather enjoy reading Murder and More. It was a quick, easy read, kept me guessing, and I became so engrossed in the storytelling that I managed to finish in one day. I highly recommend the story, whether you’ve followed along with Carson Reno in the past or not.

Another great Carson Reno mystery
I haven’t read all of the Carson Reno books, however, I did read the last book in the series and really enjoyed it. I was really glad to have been given a chance to read the next book in the series and this one didn’t disappoint either.
What I enjoy about these books is that despite them being set in the 1960s, they don’t read like that. Darnell gives his books and writing a fresh feel to them and readjust as highly as any top-notch crime/thriller book written in our current time. The books are always fast-paced and have plenty of going on to keep you hooked throughout. I would definitely recommend this series to anybody who likes a good crime read. I am definitely looking forward to reading the next one!
I realize this is a quick review but what can you say when there’s nothing negative and a complete five-star rating! This was a fantastic read and something I will keep recommending.
