This was my first Emlyn Goode Mystery, but it won’t be my last! Author Susan Lynn Solomon has created a wonderful cozy mystery series, and this holiday novella is a delightful crash course into it.

When the police throw a Christmas bash, it is merry mayhem as everyone is surprised by the grisly secret Santa gift. Although her cop boyfriend tells her repeatedly to stay out of it, Emlyn Good tries to figure out the mystery. After all, where else will she get material for her next book. As the story progresses, readers get to know Emlyn, her family and cats well. While it is clear that the characters have, for the most part, been introduced and developed previously, Ms. Solomon presented her characters in a way that I felt I knew them.

‘Twas The Season is a good holiday cozy mystery that fans of the series are sure to enjoy.

In years past, poetry was written and enjoyed by many, today there is the idea, including among some professors, (who I have heard say, they don’t understand poetry.) That insinuates that a good or great poem is something that is indecipherable to most.
I am not one of them, as with great poets, such as Maya Angelou, Robert Stevenson, Elizabeth Barrett Browning, there is a story in the poems, a sense of place and emotion flowing through the verses. ‘A PENNY FOR YOUR THOUGHTS,’ by Sherrill S. Cannon is one such book.
It is rich in emotion, stories flow through the verses, and tales of love and loss are ripe within its pages. It is a glorious book that should be savored from start to finish and this reader feels that one would have to be devoid of life experience not to find many in this book that do not strike a cord deep inside of them.
Ms. Cannon’s poetry takes on the issues of grief, dying, being the object of idolatry, as, in her poem Pedestal, love, loss, and letting go. A magnificent journey through life.
A few of those that struck a deep chord in me was ‘Pedestals,’ That tells us the tale of someone who is stuck upon a pedestal and cannot become truly human for fear of losing their love. ‘The Real Me,’ that speaks of the little part of oneself that is seldom if ever shown to anyone. ‘To See The Future,’ shows us all that we might lose if we could see the future. For we would no longer be living in the present, the joy, sorrow, love, grief, beauty, and glory of life would be forever shaded with the knowledge of what’s to come. ‘Does Memory Last,’ a question each of us may ponder, when we lose a loved one or are facing death. ‘Old Woman,’ is a poignant look at the young woman that exists in all, under the veil of wrinkles and aging.
There were so many poems in this book that touched cords deeply within me, as to bring smiles to my lips, joy to my heart, thoughtfulness to my mind and grief inside of me.
A PENNY FOR YOUR THOUGHTS is an astoundingly, wonderous trip through the thoughts, life, and emotions we all go through in life.
In the pages of this book, everyone will find something that will help them grow or understand themselves better. I highly recommend it.

He eventually learns of a great-aunt living in Fairy Falls, and decides to leave the only life he’s ever known for an uncertain future.

This novel might be the BEST book for summer reading EVER. It’s fun, it’s entertaining, and it takes place in an idyllic tourist town that thrives during the summer season. It also revolves around a whodunit-style mystery plot that genuinely had me guessing until the very end. And although this is very definitely a Young Adult novel, it will have no problem appealing to adults too. I’m not a huge YA reader myself and I adored the characters and the story.

The story starts off with Hart, a teenager who has lost pretty much everything and washes up in Fairy Falls, the idyllic town mentioned above. Hart’s only living relative, his Aunt Gertie (who is so awesome, one of my favorite characters), owns a huge blueberry farm and lives in Fairy Falls and agrees to take him in once she finds out his mother, her niece, was murdered the previous year. That’s where the intrigue starts. There’s a killer on the loose in Fairy Falls and they seem to be targeting Hart’s family and anyone related to them, as well as people related to Diana MacGregor, one of the first friends Hart makes in Fairy Falls and the daughter of the town’s mayor. That’s all I’ll say about the plot, because I don’t want to include spoilers, but suffice to say that the mystery includes a lot of unexpected twists and turns, and also moments of hilarity that balanced the suspense nicely.

This is the second book I’ve read by this author and one thing I want to note is that I really appreciate this writer’s positive energy. Both of the novels I’ve read by her left me feeling good and made me laugh and smile throughout reading them, even though there are also moments of wondering if the characters are going to make it through. Blackflies and Blueberries really is the perfect beach read because it’s engaging but also relaxing. I came away from this book feeling lighter and also like I definitely want to check out the first book in the series (although this one can be read as a standalone novel, no problem).

I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves contemporary YA, YA fantasy, mystery, suspense, and action/adventure. It hits the sweet spot on all counts across these genres.

This was so different than Mr. Nosach’s other books but enjoyable. The Godfrey family is in turmoil and the author captures this. One son suffers from hallucinations or does he? Is the devil real? A mother has a wicked secret. All these things come together in a taut suspenseful tale. Mr. Nosach has dabbled in the paranormal before but this is for real. BROKEN TRUST is well written and it deserves 5 stars.

NO CLUES NO SHOES BY MARSHA CASPER COOK
REVIEW BY KAREN VAUGHAN
Emelina and Addison are new friends. Emelina talks too much but wants to be a private detective. She and Addison are attending library day when another kid in the group announces that his shoe has been stolen. Emelina, Addison and her dog Stanley are on the case. They search the lost and found without any luck. They search the park and find what they were looking for and a whole lot more. They also find the culprit of this crime.
The story is aimed at 3-7 year olds and is great for detective wannnabes. Emelina is larger than life and a lot of fun. It was a fun little read and I recommend it for children in grades 1 or 2. I give this story 5 blue shoes.

GIVE INTO THE URGE! READ BETA BY JO PILSWORTH!

Beta (Diaries of the Cwn Annwn Book 2) by [Pilsworth, Jo]Beta (Diaries of the Cwn Annwn Book 2) Kindle Edition

“I had failed my Alpha. I knew this, and mine was the penalty to pay, that I might never know the comfort of my Mate, of finding the other half of my soul. I might dream, of a beautiful white wolf, with eyes of green. I might dream that we ran together under the moonlight, but I would never know her. Or so I thought.”

“It was a letter that started it, from an old friend, a plea for help. A run in the Catskills. An encounter with a white wolf on Cwn Annwn territory. A cop. A Homicide Detective. Her family who saw her only as a marriage prize even in this modern age. But she was mine. Alix was mine. Woe betide any who thought to take her from me.”

Bran Cadwgan is one of two Betas of the Cwn Annwn. He believed he would never be granted a Mate by the Goddess as penance for past mistakes, but discovers that he was wrong. Will he succeed in proving to both her family and his Mate that he is worthy of her sharing his life?

Alix Gosselin is the only daughter of the Gosselin Alpha and his mate. She was the “Gosselin Princess” growing up in an abusive home, until she fled first to attend boarding school and then for a career in law enforcement. Her parents had proven that the myth of a mate who would love and treasure you above all else was just that, a myth. Then, she encountered a biker whilst investigating a series of female disappearances in a suspected sex-trafficking ring. Her life would never be the same again. Alix wants to believe the story she is told by her biker, but she knows her father will not let her ‘throw herself away’ on a ‘mere biker’.

Bran and Alix, both have preconceptions to overcome. Both of them will be faced with challenges. Will the growing bond between them be sufficient?

Based on the legend of the Welsh Cwn Annwn, and incorporating Jo’s love of myth and legend, Beta introduces a cast of Cwn Annwn, wolf shifter and human characters, weaving romance with the contemporary world. Dare you walk in our world?

I’ve worked my way through this series totally out of order and this is my last part – until more are written (Soon I hope). Even though this takes place earlier in the storyline I was familiar with the charters and it felt like an old chat about history with friends. It is the story of Bran and Alix finding each other. With these unique shifters that is something really special and different to most other shifters who aren’t CWN. Many couples deal with parents but my goodness, Alix’s dad was awful! It was great to get to know Bran on a deeper level and the more I read Alix the more I loved them for each other. This is a wonderful series; it and all of the spin-offs add to rich world with a history and relationships that are much more complex and compelling than the average PNR. One really great thing is that you can read any of them in any order without ruining storyline. I highly recommend them all.
