November 12, 2052: Earth has lost two-thirds of its population to the Great War. Many more lives have been lost to earthquakes, the Clover Virus, and the Death Plague. Years later, survivors are clumped into factions. Two of those factions—the Brotherhood and the Guild Faction—have battled over medical supplies and food for years. The fight is coming to a head as manpower dwindles, and the struggle becomes one to gain numbers, even if said numbers are children…
Griffin Storm, an albino man kidnapped and dragged into the Brotherhood, has transformed into a G.O.D., a Genetically enhanced Omni-dimensional being. Two weeks in the brig, and Griffin’s released after it’s determined that he’s learned to control most of his god-like abilities. His abilities have grown almost as much as his love for Tassta Vinetti and his unfortunate bloodlust. His bond with Tassta’s twin brother, Penn, has grown as well and is cemented in secrets.
Not disappointed!
Griffin, having earned the trust of Fortress authorities, is set to be released from The Brig, much to the delight of Tassta, his sweetheart. Although Griffin still has a lot to learn about balancing his newfound abilities against his inherent humanity, overall he does well and has enough control over his abilities to prevent caving into his inner desires. As his and Tassta’s romance heats up, Griffin gets the horrifying news soon after his release, Griffin’s told that Guild agents and the notorious Trips (super-agents of the Guild) are in the Underground. He must now test his abilities to save the abandoned children that live there. Will Griffin rescue the children of the Underground from a tragic end? Will Tassta and Griffin’s love survive such turmoil? Can a G.O.D. forgive himself when death and destruction follow his every move? Read Blood Phase, the gripping second book in the G.O.D.s Series!

The Spy Game, written and illustrated by J.D. Holiday
Eddie would love to have a puppy to play with. A puppy would pull on a rope, catch a ball and lick your face. But his Uncle brings Eddie an older dog named after a famous spy.
What can you do with an old dog? It probably could not learn new tricks, and the only thing this dog did was stare. It’s what they find to do together that makes them the best of friends!

J.D. Holiday is the author and illustrator of the children’s picture books- JANOOSE THE GOOSE and THE SPY GAME, and the chapter book for 6 to 8 year olds, THE GREAT SNOWBALL ESCAPADE. The Spy Game is Fantastic

The Spy Game takes Eddie and Sidney, a large black older dog on an
adventure from their first meeting. Although large, Sidney is a sweet
dog. Eddie’s Uncle Reese brings him this dog (who he has rescued,) to
Eddie who was reluctant at first, having his heart set on getting a
puppy to play with. Sidney soon changes Eddie’s mind on that as they
help Eddie’s friends find a missing cat and her kittens. I love the
remarkable illustrations which bring the characters to life. Eddie,
Sidney and Eddie’s friends, Dana and Joel are like ‘real’ kids you
might know. I’ve read other stories by this author, and like J.D.
Holiday’s other stories, The Spy Game is a wonderful story about
friendship and love of a pet.

Killer Among Us (Carson Reno Book 3) by Gerald W. Darnell – #Mystery, #Crime, #MysteryThriller&Suspense, #CrimeFiction

Ger killer among us.png

Line Blurb
All Carson Reno, Mystery Series Books, are standalone novels. It is not necessary to read them in any particular order.
The witness protection program had simply not worked as promised. He and his wife had been relocated to a one-horse hick town in West Tennessee, with a promise to start life over – on the right side of the law, this time.
His factory job lasted less than a year. A strike and major labor dispute had cost him his job – and his running around with other women had cost him his wife. He never intended for any of this to happen, but it seemed he was meeting failure at every turn. He had made that difficult move from the underworld to the real world with all good intentions of making it stick – it wasn’t working. Things were dragging him back, and he was finding it too easy to drift into the dark side of life once again.
He knew that if he crossed back over, all chances and opportunity for a life in the real world were over – his one chance gone forever. While he resisted, it just didn’t seem to matter – circumstances were taking him back – he couldn’t stop himself.
He started by renewing some old contacts, asking the right questions and finally by offering his services for hire. It didn’t take long for things to happen, and contract offers coming his way.
They started with a call from Anthony ‘Tony’ Scarsetti. He had worked for Tony in the past, and he believed they held a mutual respect for each other – him for his skills and Tony for his leadership. Tony was a rival of Steve Carrollton, and their competition for the vices in Memphis and on Beale Street was well known. Evidently, Carrollton had been temporarily sidelined – but his operations continued. Tony was looking for some professional help to make his temporary situation a permanent one.
Once again in his life, things were looking up, and he was feeling good about himself – being useful. His skills were needed, and he would again be a contributor. His little house on Mullins Avenue, in this hick town of Humboldt, would also be useful. Quiet, out of the main activity in Memphis, and allowing him to operate under the radar. Besides, the government had bought it, why not put it to good use?
He would start by sharpening the skills that had once made him successful. After all, failure was not an option in this business – only death. Hours in the local forests and woods would give him the privacy required – he had the perfect set-up and the perfect location. Nobody local to challenge him, and besides, if someone did – he was still the best at what he did. Everybody knew that.

Well written and fun to read.

As a native of the real town that is the setting for most of the Carson Reno adventures, I probably get more involved than the casual reader of mysteries. But, aside from being able to actually remember the locations in the book, the stories are logically devised and well written. Carson, as chronicled by Gerald, is fun to follow.

CAPTAIN EVE STONE, UNITED STATES AIR FORCE SPECIAL OPERATIONS JTAC
I am an American soldier, serving the people of the United States of America. I am a warrior. I am trained and disciplined mentally and physically. I am an expert and a professional. I stand ready to deploy, engage, and to destroy the enemy. I will never accept defeat. And that is why after nearly twenty years of serving my country and having my identity, my memory, my life, and my one true love stolen from me, I will fight with everything in me to get him back, to remember who I really am.
Almost twenty years have gone by since I was injured in an accident while serving in the United States Air Force. My family, friends, and fiancé were informed I had died. I lost everything. Until now.
It was a chance encounter. While on a top-secret mission behind enemy lines in Iraq, he found me, the only man I’ve ever loved, SSgt Wyatt Powell. But I don’t remember him. You see, I’m a cyborg now. My human side is at war with my machine side because my human side remembers. I have a new identity and a new mission. I will get my life back, and I will make Wyatt fall in love with me again. And I will seek and destroy those who did this to me. I am Captain Eve Stone, and I am a Soldier of Destruction.
SSGT WYATT POWELL, MERCENARY SOLDIER OF KNIGHTS INC.
I can’t believe it’s her. When she died, it nearly destroyed me. Now I’m facing the fact that she’s been alive all this time, but she’s changed. She’s a cyborg with a new identity, and I’m not the same man she fell in love with. I’ve seen and done things that I cannot undo.
I have memories of how we used to be, of the all-consuming love we once shared, back before I had traversed the depths of hell. Before I lost my soul and willingly became a cyborg soldier for Knights Inc., a private mercenary army for hire, fighting for and protecting important assets of the United States. We do the dirty work no one else will, behind enemy lines in the most dangerous parts of the world, and on American soil. We go where even the bravest of the brave would not dare to go.
We have a new mission: find others like Captain Eve Stone and stop whoever is stealing the lives of American soldiers and turning them into cyborgs against their will. This I will do. I will hunt down those bastards and make them pay. I owe her this, even though I’ve reached the point of no return. I owe her my help in getting her life back, even if I no longer belong in it.
I can’t go back to the way we were, and I don’t know how to go forward, or if I even want to. She would hate the man I’ve become. I’m no longer worthy of her. I am the Dragon, a Knight of Destruction.

A love story I couldn’t put down.

I love Kauffman’s Time After Time Series. MacKalvey House is my favorite so far.
Kauffman has a fantastic imagination and places these two lovers in different times and different situations. MacKalvey House is current times and takes place in England.
I think the characters interact perfectly, whether it be good or bad and make you feel for them.
I look forward to reading many more Time After Time books by Kauffman.

There is an ancient story, of a sorceress who lived deep within the waters of an enchanted lake and guarded with her presence a sword which Destiny had decreed would be used for the salvation of mankind, or for its downfall.
But the sword did not always live in the Waters…
And before it was struck in stone to await its fated bearer, the sorceress and her prince imbued the blade with its magic and its fortitude.
In the kingdom of Gouldaria, those without magic are the lowest of casts one can fall in, unless you are a Soul Eater, and then you are worse by far.
Valislava never used her magic to steal a soul. She has kept herself hidden, allowed herself to be shunned, lived in exile, all but for the love of the one man who she couldn’t have.
Prince Talyessin always knew who and what his Isla was, and he loved her still. But love was a meaningless thing when war threatened to tear them apart.

Beautiful addition to the Never Lands Saga

Andi Lawrencovna writes such beautiful books, they’re almost like reading poetry. Forevermore is no exception. With a dark, romantic story, and a high-stakes adventure, Ms. Lawrencovna has added another beautiful addition to the Never Lands Saga. I’d definitely recommend this book to anyone who loves fantasy books.

PS It really isn’t necessary to read the other Never Lands books, as Forevermore can definitely be read as a standalone novel.

When his best friend decided to join the Army after high school graduation, there was no question Joel would join too. Best friends since kindergarten, the two of them did everything together, and this was no different. A routine mission changed their lives forever. Slade ended up paralyzed while Joel lost his leg. Joel never expected to live with one leg, but he wasn’t going to let it break him. Like he did with everything else, he adapted, and he accepted that he was never going to find love. Women might want to sleep with a war hero, but they sure as hell don’t want to live with and take care of one. That theory proves true until Courtney comes along. Beautiful, independent Courtney with her wicked sense of humor is the perfect woman for Joel. All he has to do is trust her enough to accept that he doesn’t have to stand on his own anymore.

His perfect match

In this second book of the New Beginnings, all the characters from the first book are back, and we get to see more of Joel and his best friend, Slade. Both of them have suffered both physically and emotionally after their time in the army, and they are trying their best to cope. This story centers around Joel and the girl he meets, Courtney. Their first couple of encounters don’t go well, but still, there is something between them, and Joel is determined to pursue a relationship with Courtney. This book delves into PTSD (which both Joel and Slade suffer from) and the difficulties living with it.

A zombie novel YA readers can sink their teeth into!!!

Author, Ann Logsdon, has truly created a good read in the short novel, Viral Dawn. Although nothing new has been introduced into the zombie mythos, Ms. Logsdon has succeeded in merging just about every traditional zombie aspect that I have encountered, either through literature or film. However, this fact does not take away from the reading experience but instead enhances it. The main character, Casey, is a strong female lead, supported by a well-developed cast of characters. Casey finds herself thrust into a world of flesh-eating zombies that tend to only come out at night. However, there are a few subtle hints in the story that there is simply more to them than that. Perhaps they are evolving? If you wish to know more, I suggest you read the book.
The work is well written and flows at a nice pace, with a few slow parts that seem to coincide with what Casey is experiencing and feeling. I would have liked a little more action in the story, but it is enough to get you through, connected with bouts of drama and intelligent dialogue. For a zombie novel, the blood and gore are kept to a tasteful level, just right.
The end of the story leaves the reader with a heavy cliffhanger, keeping you wanting more. I would most definitely be interested in experiencing more of the world in which Viral Dawn takes place and would recommend this book to the average young adult reader and older audiences.

Who was after her and how did they seem only a half step behind them as the two flee?

The Binding kept me wondering. Merideth and Ryder meet at her mother’s funeral. She’s feeling guilty for not spending more time with her mother and the way their last visit ended. Ryder didn’t know her mother but his father did and was a close friend, or so he said. No one had ever seen them together and she hadn’t spoken of him. When the man and her own father agreed that her mother’s death may be foul play Ryder was assigned to protect her.
Who was after her and how did they seem only a half step behind them as the two flee?
There is an attraction between these two never-gonna-get-in-another-serious-relationship people. Neither wants to admit it even though they come close a few times.
While I did enjoy the book, I was unable to care about Merideth. Her better-than-you attitude was off-putting. Ryder was easier to like, however, with the mystery not allowing us to delve into their personalities too closely it wasn’t easy to be on their side. I did enjoy the story and if you are looking for an interesting mystery with a couple and little steam this will fit the bill.
